Cake Morning raises £60.00

A big thank-you to Noel Walsh and everyone who donated their cakes, time and cash to help raise a great £60.00 for Headcases. The event was a cake morning, held recently at Stafford Job Centre.

Our Chairman, Fred was pleased to announce the donation at our July meeting held this Wednesday. The meeting was well attended, and we were especially pleased to have return visits from some who have only recently completed their treatment.

Pampering Therapy

The therapeutic and psychological benefits of women wearing make-up have been well-documented.

In particular, in the face of adversity. the desire to look good still remains. Nowhere is this more apt than for women coping with the visible side-effects of cancer treatments.

In essence, this is the thinking behind the Look Good Feel Better Programme. One of the services in the UK helping to support women with cancer. It offers free skincare and make-up workshops through a network of over 80 hospitals and cancer support centres nationwide. The charity, first introduced in 1994 by the Cosmetic, Toiletry and Perfumery Association, is supported by many different companies and brands in the Beauty Industry, who donate funds, products and the expertise of their staff.

Parking at Royal Stoke for Cancer Patients

Since November 2013 there have been special concessions for patients having treatment at the Cancer Centre. It is possible to avoid parking charges by getting a pass. One pass is allowed per patient, and can be used by either the patient or regular carer / spouse / partner when parking at the Hospital.

The pass can be issued for a period of up to 3 months, covering full courses of chemo or radiotherapy or a stay as an in-patient. See the senior nurse when starting a course of treatment to get the form filled in, and a Pass Number.

The pass looks like this:

and must be displayed in the window of your car. Unfortunately it doesn’t make finding a space any easier!

Sonja’s kind donation will benefit Head and Neck patients having treatment on the ENT Specialised Surgery Ward [ Ward 111 ] at the Royal Stoke. The cash will help purchase a new nebuliser machine.
