New Tablets on the way for Text to Speech use

I’m happy to announce we’ve ordered 8 tablets for the Speech and Language therapists to allocate to patients. They’ll be available in the Department from the end of the month and will be used to help patients having speech difficulties after surgery / treatment.

There are a number of very good apps that will convert typed text into speech at the tap of the screen. Some allow the creation of a library of phrases that are always available at a quick tap, avoiding laborious pencil and paper communication. In between conversations, the usual facilities will allow for music, films, Facebook and whatever else can be found on an Android Tablet.

We know patients who’ve used this solution extensively, and the feedback has been very good.

Generous Donation for Nebuliser

We’re very grateful to one of our Head and Neck patients for a gift of £200.00 to be used for the purchase of Nebuliser Equipment. This will be used at home by future patients to help healing of tissues after treatment. A nebuliser will create a fine, atomised mist that soothes and moistens the airway and throat when breathed in, promoting comfort and healing.

Gifts like this will always benefit current and future patients, so thanks again, and all the very best for your ongoing recovery.
