Well, we had a great turnout for this evening – around 40 of us including many new faces. One lady only two weeks post treatment. The Legion had done a grand job decorating the room to make it feel really festive. It was good to welcome Mr Hughes, Wendy, Jackie and Andrea from the hospital department. Nice of Wendy to come along since she’s now officially retired!

Fred, Rita and Janet prepared a lovely buffet to start the evening off. Several others also contributed to the food. Fred baked a superb cake, topped off with the Headcases logo. This was followed by the Raffle and a Bingo session, with wine and biscuits for a full house and line respectively. Many thanks to all who provided prizes for the raffle – Fred reckoned we netted about £130.00 for Headcases funds.

Don’t forget we skip the January meeting, so the next get together is 1st Feb 2023. Look forward to seeing you there. In the meantime, have a great Christmas!

As most of you know, we’ll be doing our Christmas Raffle at the festive get-together on Wednesday 7th December at the Longton Legion at 7.30pm. Please bring along any raffle prizes on the night.

FRONTLINEdance is an artist led company based in Stoke-on-Trent, placing
disabled people and those with long-term health conditions at the core of
our organisation as leaders, dancers, artists, and audiences.

The group was originally formed to help those affected by cancer. They have received funding from the S.O.T. & N.S. Clinical Commissioning group to run a community movement group for adults who have been affected by Cancer.

Jackie was contacted by Macmillan, who were in turn contacted by FRONTLINEdance. I’m sharing this on the webpage so as to reach a wider audience. Here’s some more info:

We had a well attended meeting this month, with 17 of us, including a new friend, gathered at the Legion Club. A full round of introductions took place, with a great deal of celebration for how many cancer free years each patient had achieved.

We were very pleased to have two specialist nurses present, including Wendy who only retired fully quite recently. Wendy was the founder of the Headcases group many years ago, and it’s great she took time to keep in touch with us all.

Following on from the success of our visit to the New Vic in August we are now planning to go again in December to see ‘Eric’s Christmas Turkey’. Current plan is for the evening show on 1st December. Around 16 of us are currently intending to go. Fred will book up a block of tickets, so if you fancy coming along, please let Fred or myself know as soon as you can. Please be aware that Headcases won’t be covering the ticket costs this time, so keep an eye on this site for updates on prices and concessions etc. Click on the picture below for all the info…

The December gathering will take place at 19.30 at the Legion, with the usual fun and games including food and a raffle. We encourage members to bring along friends and family to make it a memorable night.

The European Head and Neck Society through its Make Sense campaign and the European Cancer Patient Coalition have conducted an international survivor survey, assessing the impact of head and neck cancer on the physical, social and professional well-being of survivors, and the current availability of support .

Dr Lawton is the study co-ordinator for a research project running at the University of Liverpool looking at developing a group to help find out what care is important to people with incurable head and neck cancer. They are looking for people with experience of head and neck cancer to take part in this group and wondered whether anyone within our group would be interested.

Hi everyone. I’m very happy to report our June meeting was a great success, and I’d like to thank our new friends for coming along. Fred made a fantastic job of putting together a buffet, showing off his baking skills with some superb cupcakes and a fitting tribute cake to Her Majesty in her Platinum Jubilee week. We raised some cash for the group through the raffle, so thanks to all who contributed prizes.
